Dual-rated refers to the games played between 30 and 60 minutes per side. Such a time control affects both one’s USCF regular and quick ratings. This tournament often hits the sweet spot for players looking to play a full tournament in one day with a time control that isn’t too fast.
The Dual-Rated State Championship is often held in July and is one of the state’s most prestigious titles as one of Alabama’s four open individual championships (The Alabama State Chess Championship, Quick Championship, and Blitz Championship as the other three).
