Quick refers to the games played between 10 and 30 minutes per side. Such a time control affects only one’s USCF quick ratings. While quick tournaments are often about the length of a casual game, many seasoned tournament players understand that time flys by while playing one of these in tournament competition. That comparative lack of time to standard tournament games leads to this tournament’s name, the “Quick” Championship.
The Alabama State Quick Championship is often held in June, generally held along side of the Blitz state championship event, and is considered one of the state’s most prestigious titles as one of Alabama’s four open individual championships (The Alabama State Chess Championship, Dual-Rated Championship, and Blitz Championship as the other three).
